The design of a new aeroelastic tiltrotor model for wind tunnel testing is discussed. The primary focus of the new model is to develop a better understanding of whirl flutter and other related aeroelastic stability phenomenon. The model is loosely based on the XV-15 with design choices made to simplify construction. The model will be used in the Transonic Dynamics Tunnel and is designed to test both gimballed and hingeless rotors, with a variety of parametric variations. A brief overview of the model is discussed along with some early whirl flutter predictions based on the current design.
