A fixed base low-cost flight simulator is currently under development at the Flight Test and Research Institute of the Brazilian Air Force. Its flight deck is reconfigurable and the flight dynamic model is interchangeable to simulate different types of aircraft. Its main purpose is to support the Brazilian Flight Test School on the topics of stability, handling qualities and linear control. Real-time data can be assessed from the simulated telemetry stations. The modular simulator architecture allows the continuous incorporation of advanced features. The objective of this paper is to describe briefly the simulator design and development processes, as well as some of its intended applications. The first training sessions with the simulator have demonstrated its capability to reduce satisfactorily the gap between theory and flight test technique instruction flights.
