Upheaval in almost all markets, at the moment, along with an unparalleled shortage of housing in the UK means that the opportunities for building development are being squeezed. When the increasing regulatory pressures and increasing energy prices are factored in it is prudent to make the best use of available land while optimising the building design. In addition there is a need to dramatically reduce the level of CO_2 production with substantial contributions required from the built environment. One traditional route to do this is by limiting the air change rate to cut the ventilation heating component but this results in a variety of health risks.
