Applied Health Informatics for Diagnosis of Multi-factorial Diseases

Over the last decade bioinformatics solutions have become increasingly important through the advances in biomedical research and the development of high throughput analytical instrumentation yielding large volumes of data. Bioinformatics is used widely in the biomedical research and pharmaceutical industries. It is also becoming an important component of healthcare diagnostics; and environmental and food safety testing systems. This report describes how bioinformatics is currently being applied in the biomedical subdomain of health informatics projects involving relating to clinical diagnostics and medical biotechnologies, outlining the current and potential impact of this from the clinical perspective with a view towards future applications.
