ontoKEM: A web tool for ontologies' construction and documentation

The growing use of ontologies in applications creates the need to develop tools to support specialists with little experience in creating and documenting ontology. The development of ontologies requires skills of the ontologies' engineer that can only be reached by experience and by the use of support tools, and consolidated methodologies. The ontoKEM (ontology for Knowledge Engineering and Management) is a web tool conceived to be used in an university department for research and teaching purposes. The tool was projected to guide the developers of ontologies that are starting on five main phases. Based on graduate classes as well as on a R&D project, this paper discusses requirements and design issues of the ontoKEM. The tool was taken account using some well know methodologies.
