This paper presents a simple chipless RFID sensor for dielectric sensing. The proposed chipless RFID sensor is designed based on two main parts composed of a rectangular patch and slot ring resonators. Two slot ring resonators were created within the rectangular patch in order to form two resonant frequencies. The sensor was implemented on a single-layer PCB. A short-time matrix pencil method was employed to extract the natural frequency of the sensor. The proposed sensor employed for dielectric sensing was evaluated via simulations. In simulations, the proposed sensor was mounted on the dielectric material to be determined. Simulation results have been shown that the natural frequency extracted by using the short-time matrix pencil method can be utilized to identify the dielectric permittivity of the materials.
