Performance of Foundation on Bamboo-Geotextile Composite Improved Soft Soil in Mekong Delta Through Both Plate Load Test and Numerical Analyses

摘要

The main objective of this research study was to determine the bearing capacity of the single and group bamboo piles coupled with geotextile layers improving the soft soil ground in Mekong delta, which is called as bamboo-geotextile composite (BGC). After selecting the best type of bamboo among local ones based on the unconfined compressive strength (UCS) and tensile strength (TS), static loading systems (SLS) were employed to carry out the plate load test (PLT) for the proposed foundations. Consequently, the results showed the differences between the workability of single and group bamboo piles reinforced by one and two layers of geotextile on compacted sandy ground, including their bearing capacity, displacement, and behavior under various values of the loading. Eventually, PLAXIS 2D software version 8.2 was used to simulate the carried-out tests at the field to find out and explain the accuracy and difference between the results obtained by the simulation and plate load test. As the result, the BGC systems in this study could be feasibly applied to improve the soft soil for constructions in Mekong delta since they have a good performance in terms of engineering aspects.
