Gwinnett County, Georgia Department of Water Resources (DWR) initiated a project to restore 1,300 feet of stream and install stormwater BMPs to address sediment impairment due to urban runoff in Garner Creek. The project is adjacent to a high school and youth soccer association property, providing an excellent opportunity for community outreach and public education. Gwinnett staff worked with a consultant to develop an augmented reality application using a 3D game engine to help stakeholders, students and visitors to the project site visualize the design before it is actually constructed. The augmented reality application is being used throughout construction and beyond its completion, with this project serving as a pilot for the use of the technology on future DWR projects.
