AFTER THE FLOOD - The Success of the Region of Halton's I/I Reduction Program for Public and Private Property

In August 2014, approximately 3,500 residents of Halton Region experienced basement flooding as a result of an extreme rainfall event. Halton Region responded with a series of initiatives aimed at providing immediate relief to those impacted, and a larger and more comprehensive program aimed at providing increased basement flooding resiliency system-wide in view of climate change. This paper will examine the objectives, methodology, and beneficial impacts of the first phase of the program, which targeted a high priority area in the City of Burlington.
