A novel in-plane corrugated U-type honeycomb with zero Poisson's ratio and low in-plane elasticity is proposed for support structure of flexible telescopic sandwich skin. The relationship between its in-plane equivalent elastic modulus and geometric parameters is theoretically analyzed by Castigliano's second theorem and verified by finite element analysis (FEA) and experiments. The FEA and experimental results are found to be of good agreement with theoretical results, indicating the validity and feasibility of the theoretical derivation. The in-plane transverse equivalent elastic modulus of the U-type honeycomb can reach 10-5 of Young's modulus of raw material by selecting appropriate parameters. Compared with traditional honeycombs such as accordion honeycomb, the U-type honeycomb is of lower force requirement and energy consumption during morphing, and more suitable to be used as support structure of flexible skin.
