Partner Selection in Strategic Alliance Based on Industry-University-Research Institution Collaboration

With the coming of economic globalization and information technology development, Industry-University-Research (IUR) cooperation has played a tremendous role to the world economic development as an effective way of a kind of technological innovation. Through the cooperation, the waste of iterative study and investments among the members is eliminated. The intention to distribute and to share knowledge is achieved, as well as creating a higher level of interest. Therefore, the study on industry-university-research cooperation is very significant. Today Industry, University, and Research Institution collaboration has become a common feature globalizing the development of science and technology and of economy in today's world. Therefore, the selection of alliance partners has become the most important problem for industry, university and research institute in strategic alliance in making decisions. Partners' performance decides the effectiveness of the strategic alliance, which can lead to the success and failure of strategic alliance. To assess the partners objectively, this paper builds a EMTG reference model and establishes the index system of partners in strategic alliance according to EMTG reference model. In the process of assess partners based on AHP method, we import the TOPSIS method to standardize the evaluation result so that we can get more objective and effective evaluation result and get the final appropriate partner.
