Colon Targeting Adapted to the Pathophysiology of Inflammatory Bowel Disease Patients

Novel film coatings are presented based on blends of ethylcellulose with a second polysaccharide, being preferentially degraded by enzymes in the colon of Inflammatory Bowel Disease patients (Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis). 5-Aminosalicylic acid release is minimized in media simulating the upper GIT and sets on upon exposure to patients’ feces.
