Nanomedicine Research in the EU 7th Framework Programme for RTD

The 7th Framework Programme for Research, Technological Development and Demonstration (FP7), with a budget of 50.3 Billion Euro, is the EU's main instrument for funding research and it will run from 2007 to 2013. FP7 supports research activities in selected priority areas with a high social and economic importance, focusing on research where a European approach has clear added value. Nanosciences and nanotechnologies have a high priority across FP7 because of the high social and economic impact expected in many sectors, for example in healthcare, energy, transport or information and communication technology. Nanomedicine in particular is promising for significantly improved diagnostic and therapeutic options for a wide range of diseases and to help contain the rising cost of healthcare for an ageing population.
