Nanomedicine Research in the EU 7th Framework Programme for RTD

The 7th Framework Programme for Research,Technological Development and Demonstration (FP7),with a budget of 50.3 Billion Euro, is the EU's maininstrument for funding research and it will run from 2007to 2013. FP7 supports research activities in selectedpriority areas with a high social and economicimportance, focusing on research where a Europeanapproach has clear added value.Nanosciences and nanotechnologies have a highpriority across FP7 because of the high social andeconomic impact expected in many sectors, for examplein healthcare, energy, transport or information andcommunication technology.Nanomedicine in particular is promising forsignificantly improved diagnostic and therapeutic optionsfor a wide range of diseases and to help contain the risingcost of healthcare for an ageing population.
