Through content and statistical analysis on twenty-three typical successful management and succession cases about Chinese famous family business, the competency model for the founder entrepreneurs has been developed with 3 dimensions: operation management competency, culture management competency and knowledge management competency. The founder entrepreneurs are best at operation management, especially decision-making, perspective, self-confident, problem solving, communicative coordination and resolute etc. They are better at culture management, especially willpower, responsibility, practical and reliability etc, but bad at knowledge management. They are rich in management experience, but they need improvement in team leadership, influence, flexibility and achievement desire, crisis awareness, innovation, learning, industrial knowledge and experience, etc.
