An Environmental Assessment of Food Supply Chains:A Case Study on Chinese Inner Mongolia Meng Niu Dairy

With the rapidly improvement of Chinese people’s material and cultural well-being, people’s demand for the quantity and quality of the food supply is increasing as well. In order to meet the consumers’ demand for seasonal and fresh products, we must improve the contemporary food system, such as food production, distribution and retailing systems.Through making a case study on milk supply chain of Chinese Inner Monglia Meng Niu Dairy Co.,Ltd which is the biggest dairy corporation in China, the article combines the results of the means/end analysis (MEA) to evaluate the environmental performance of the food supply chains (FSC) existing in Meng Niu Dairy , also specifically analyses the method and procedural of the assessment, then the methods and approaches reducing the environmental pollution associated with the existing food supply chain in Meng Niu Dairy are considered. Finally, the recommendations for the furore assessment of the environmental performance of food supply chains and the development of the contemporary supply chain are put forward so as to minimize the environmental impacts associated with each stage in food supply chains.
