In the context of high-energy physics collider experiments, calorimetry (energy measurement) plays an important role in particle identification. Signals from calorimeters have good energy resolution and provide a valuable particle separation capability. However, some interesting particles do interact weakly with such detectors and detection performance is thus greatly reduced. This work presents the design of a receiver system for a highly segmented calorimeter (TileCal), aiming at identifying muon particles under low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) conditions. In order to increase the SNR of the system, signals are topologically grouped together and analogically added. Results from both a threshold discriminator and an approximation of the matched filter are evaluated from experimental data.
