The flying qualities issues related to the long-period dynamics of hypersonic flight are considered. Paticular emphasis is placed on the effect of aperiodic phugoid and height mode instabilites. Simulation experiments are used to obtaim pilot rationgs based on the Coper Hanper scale. Flight tests using a SR-70 aicraft have been conducted to validate results from the hypersonic simulation research on long-term dynamics effects on flying qualities. It is shown that longtudinal dynamics of the SR-71 aircraft and the hypersonic vehicle simulation modeling are comparable.
