摘要

If the goal of researchers is a better understanding of current practices and appropriate interventions, then individuals with disabilities and family members must play a greater role in every step of the research process (Council for Exceptional Children, 1996). The research process must become more open, with careful thought given to the development of a research partnership between university researchers and AAC users in everything from the development of meaningful questions to the production of research information that can be easily understood and used by consumers (Krezman, 1999). This panel discussion will provide the viewpoints of two AAC users who have both been active in many aspects of the research process, as well as two university-based researchers and a clinical researcher who have worked to develop inclusive research teams. The authors will discuss a framework for the development of inclusive research teams, and describe, based on personal experience, important supports and barriers to the full participation of AAC users in the research process.
