The influence of the nucleating agent lanthanum stearate (LaSt) on the crystallization behavior of isotactic polypropylene (iPP) was investigated by using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), polarized optical microscopy (POM) and wide angle X-ray scattering (WAXD). It was found that the t1/2 of nucleated iPP significantly decreased compared with pure iPP. LaSt induces the formation of a high level of β -modification during crystallization of iPP, and the content of β -form iPP depends on the crystallization conditions. The spherulite morphology of iPP was investigated by POM. The results indicated that the addition of LaSt can induce β -form iPP (β -iPP) effectively and decrease the spherulite size of iPP remarkably.
