Degradation of Tetracycline in Aqueous Medium by Electrochemical Method

The effect of operating conditions such as initial tetracycline concentration, electrical current, initial pH, concentration of Na2SO4 as a supporting electrolyte and hydroxyl radical scavenger on the removal of tetracycline in electrochemical process was investigated. The results showed that the degradation efficiency of tetracycline increased with the increase of current density from 15.9 to 63.5A/cm 2 , while decreased with the increasing initial tetracycline concentration from 50mg/L to 200mg/L, initial pH and concentration of Na2SO4 has little effect on the electrochemical process. There was no appreciable difference between the removal efficiency of tetracycline obtained in the absence and presence of tert-butanol,indicating that the electrochemical process for the removal of tetracycline is not mainly the reaction involved in radicals formed in the solution.
