The mold is the key part of a continuous caster; its design and performance directly determine the quality of product and efficiency of continuous casting. Comparing with the conventional slab casting, thin slab casting has the characteristics such as smaller cross-sectional area, higher speed and faster solidification. The liquid steel input into mold per unit time is larger, and the heat exchange in the mold is larger too, so the operation condition of thin slab mold is more sever. From the experience, it can be seen that the service life of thin slab mld is shorter than the conventional slab mold. So it is a very important problem how to optimize the design of the thin slab copper mold plate and improve it's cooling efficiency and service life.
