United States Bureau of Reclamation’s Contribution in K-12 Education

The U. S. Bureau of Reclamation is a federal agency in the Department of Interior that provides water management in the 17 western states. The U. S. Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) has been involved in environmental education to students in the Denver Metropolitan area through school visitations, water festivals, science fairs, and laboratory tours of the water, structural and environmental laboratories. Environmental demonstrations have been completed on meteorology, snow storms, ground water movement, wetlands, water quality, sedimentation, and dam failure. A number of diverse presentations have been made to students and other volunteer organizations to try to impart basic scientific information and to provide an early interest in science and engineering career paths. This paper will describe Reclamation’s environmental education program and future possibilities with the program. Extensive effort by many scientists and engineers has resulted in a successful program through time.
