OFDM is a Multi-carrier transmission system. In multi-carrier systems, information data are generated in the frequency domain, transformed to the time domain, and sometimes spread to the space domain if multiple antennas are used. Time-domain multi-carrier signals usually exhibit large amplitude variations, which can be approximately described by the Gaussian distribution. This is an undesirable property because it will involve the nonlinear distortion. When the OFDM signal having high-Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) passes through the transmitter front-end, which is usually modeled as a peak-power limited channel, it results in reduction in power efficiency and increase in the implementation cost. In order to reduce PAPR of OFDM signal, several techniques are available. Here tone reservation technique of PAPR reduction is discussed and results of simulation are presented.
