Hydromorfomatric analysis of Al-Awaj valley using geographic information system (GIS)

This study was aims to analysis the morphometric characteristics of Al-Awaj valley in Al-Samawa province, Iraq. Drainage and analysis produced based on Digital Elevation Model (DEM) with 30m resolution prepared from ASTER. Basic morphometric parameters were analyzed, such as Stream Order and a number of stream order, which estimates the basin area and it's relative to the dimensions of the basin geological and topographical attributes. It was found by analyzing the results that the shape of the basin is elongated shape, subsoil, and coarse drainage texture. The basin has longer-lasting low peak flow and has more divergence from the circular shape.
