Silicon carbide (SiC) was synthesized from Vietnamese rice husk charcoal and diatomite using an electric arc with arc currents of 100, 150, and 200 A. The synthesized product was characterized by Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and scanning electron microscopy with an energy-dispersive X-ray analyzer. An a-SiC material with a purity of up to 85.12 % was successfully synthesized from the Vietnamese diatomite and rice husk charcoal. An amount of carbon and SiO_2 remained but can be removed by burning and leaching.
