The next generation of lithium ion batteries will expand the application range from popular portable devices to high power electric vehicle and so on. For such a use, the cost factor and battery performance in safety, specific capacity and kinetics must be considered and improved. So far as it goes, carbonaceous insertion materials remain leading products for anode materials of lithium ion batteries. However, their reversible capacities are limited to below 372 mAh/g and the kinetic behaviours are also not satisfying. Under such a situation, new anode materials with higher capacity are required.
