Phase 1 Coalition Battle Management Language (C-BML) Balloting Products: Description and Status

The Coalition Battle Management Language (C-BML) is a common language for expressing and exchanging plans, orders, requests, and reports across command and control systems, modeling and simulation systems, and robotic systems. C-BML is an emerging standard from the Simulation Interoperability Standards Organization (SISO); at the time of this writing, Phase 1 of the C-BML standard is in balloting by the SISO community. The Phase 1 C-BML development was largely focused on specification of the underlying data model and an initial set of expressions for orders, requests, and reports. Phase 1 products included a Specification, XML Schemas, a Guidelines document, numerous examples of possible use of C-BML, and other supporting materials. The Phase 2 development effort seeks to specify formal grammatical structures for defining valid expressions. Phase 3 of the C-BML standardization effort will focus on specification of a formal ontology underlying the language and its use. This paper describes the Phase 1 C-BML products that were prepared for balloting, and gives the status of the balloting process.
