The growing demand for high quality steel gradesand high volatility on the commodities market movedThyssenKrupp (TK) to search for new horizons byupgrading its installed production capacity in Europe,as well as leaving the 150 years old traditionalterritory by going abroad searching for new locationsand markets.The demanding criterias for the site selection werethe focus on closeness to the source of raw materialsas well as high concentration of clients, combinedwith state of the art technology that allows significantcost reductions in the production of steel withchallenging environmental limits had to be matchedwith an appropriate solution for handling andtransportation of steel slabs.Due to the distances between the different productionfacilities, the key for success is an efficient and fit-forpurposesupply chain for 5 Mio.tons of slabs per yearover 3 continents to guarantee shortest lead times.
