摘要

In the changing global market scenario for rawmaterials for the steel industry, a number of noveliron- and steelmaking process technologies are beingdeveloped to provide the steel companies witheconomically-sustainable alternatives for iron- andsteel-making. In addition, the steel industry is alsofocusing on reduction of energy consumption as wellas green-house gas (GHG) emissions to address thecrucial subject of climate change. In this context, it isimportant to assess these critical issues for thealternate iron- and steelmaking technologies thathave been developed. This paper presents acomparative evaluation of energy-efficiency andGHG emissions for some selected iron- andsteelmaking technologies that are being consideredfor implementation. In this work, Hatch’s G-CAP~(TM)and En-MAP~(TM) tools that were developed with themain objective of quantifying and qualifying thepotential energy savings and CO_2 abatement withinthe iron and steel industry, were employed in theevaluation conducted.
