Offshore Safety - Overview of Existing International HSE Standards for Offshore Wind Farms - (PPT)

A number of existing offshore wind HSE international standards and guidelines provide a solid foundation for use in North America. Existing offshore wind HSE standards can be grouped in three distinct categories: Design and construction safety; Occupational health and safety; Environmental issues. There is not one "catch-all" standard or guideline that addresses all three of these categories, nor one that comprehensively covers any one individual area. Many of the standards have overlapping coverage. Design and environmental standards are the most developed. Renewable UK's, Guidelines for Onshore and Offshore Wind Farms, Health & Safety in the Wind Energy Industry Sector - 2010 is the newest and most comprehensive offshore wind HSE standard. A comprehensive Health and Safety Standard for the U.S., built on the UK's guidelines would provide a foundation for ensuring occupational safety for offshore wind energy projects as they are developed.
