A geophysical survey on marls of Heraklion city in Crete Island (Southern Hellenic Arc, Greece)

The purpose of this work is to describe the geophysical properties of the near surface structure of Heraklion city located in the centre of the northern part in Crete Island (Greece). These geophysical properties are further associated with specific geological formations covering the study area. Seismic refraction, electrical resistivity tomography profiles, geological maps and in situ geological observations are properly combined using GIS techniques in order to construct two sections, showing the subsurface structure of Heraklion. Marls of Heraklion are of special interest because they cover a large area of the city and are extended in great depth.
