In July 2006, the Las Vegas Valley Water District (the District) awarded a team of researchers led by Polytechnic University, New York, NY, (Poly) and SINTEF, Trondheim, Norway, (the Research Team), a contract in view of implementing an advanced Asset Management program centered on CARE-W (Computer Aided Rehabilitation of Water Networks) for the planning of the rehabilitation of their 3,800 miles of buried pipes. The focus of this project is to provide LVVWD with tools to improve their planning and decision making process, plan and justify for potentially necessary water rate increases based on properly collected and analyzed data.
