It is quite clear that there is a substantial growth of the information society in Greece during the years 2000-2006. It is also beyond any doubt that eCommerce activity in the country is almost at a standstill. This study investigates the consumers' preferences and attitudes towards the internet technologies and eCommerce activity. In this first part the role of the internet is evaluated based on certain demographic criteria and thereafter the frequency of its use is also examined. The results prove the frequent use of the internet on a weekly basis by most users but, also, the confusion as to its role in their everyday life.
