Appropriate Use of Tank and Pressure Vessel 'In Service' Codes When Assessing Localized Corrosion and Cracking Damage

Tanks and pressure vessels with localized damage, including corrosion and cracking, are evaluated for fitness-for-continued-service by applying post-construction (in-service) codes. Proper use of code rules helps avoid over-conservative repairs and premature replacement of serviceable equipment. This paper discusses application of inservice codes to assess the consequences of localized damage in tanks and pressure vessels in pulp and paper mills, including liquor tanks, digesters, paper machine dryer cans and boiler tubes.
