A new type of mould named as low stress mould for thin slab continuous casting is introduced. It is used in one of CSP plant and one pilot caster (Baosteel) in China and the result shows successful. No transverse cracks occur in the slab and the possibility of longitudinal cracks is 80% lower than that before by a typical funnel mould. It also possesses a uniform internal abrasion during casting, which increase the service life of the mould up to 30%. It is suitable for the casting of peritectic steel grades as well as austeritic stainless steel grade. The casting the electrical steel with silicon content up to 3.0% also presents good results.
