White rot fungus Phanerochaete sordida (P. sordida) YK-624 and purified manganese peroxidase (MnP) form it were used to study the transformation of 2-chlorophenol (2-CP). Results showed that P. sordida could degrade 2-CP 56.27% when 2-CP was 50mg/L and MnP could degrade 2-CP 91.99% when 300U MnP was used to treat 150mg/L 2-CP for 24h. UV absorption spectra, FTIR and HPLC spectrum were used to observe the transformation process and the major oxidation intermediate products. There were series of products when 2-CP was oxidized by MnP and possible products included quinones and polymeric products.
