HYSUN3000 Record:3000 km from Berlin to Barcelona on 3.3 kg Hydrogen

Two years ago,a few Ballard employees had the idea of designing and building a fuel cell vehicle that would set a world record.The objective of the project would be to prove the efficiency and applicability of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies by proving that a fuel cell vehicle could travel a significant distance on only a small amount of hydrogen.On September 23,2004,after two years of planning,construction and testing,and with the participation of over 30 volunteers,the HYSUN3000 team drove from Berlin to Barcelona -and straight into the record books.Two world records were set during the 3000 km trip from Berlin to Barcelona:in the first,the vehicle consumed only 3.3 kg of hydrogen (equivalent to 12 liters of gasoline with fuel consumption of 0.4 liters per 100 km) and the second,for achieving a driving range of 1640 km on one tank of hydrogen.
