In automotive,but also in stationary and portable applications for energy supply fuel cells operating at higher temperatures above 100°C are necessary for enhanced performance and efficiency.For these applications High Temperature-Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cells (HT-PEMFC) with new proton conducting membranes are required:Polysiloxanes with proton conducting functions like sulfonic acid and heterocyclic groups like imidazole and benzimidazole are promising candidates for this new type of polymer electrolyte membranes.A new membrane has been developed,based on a polysiloxane framework with functional proton conducting groups covalently bonded at the siloxane backbone.Additionally sulfonated siloxane based copolymers are used as co-components leading to improved flexibility of the membranes at higher temperatures up to 180°C.
