International Partnership for the Hydrogen Economy and the Hydrogen Fuel Initiative

The International Partnership for the Hydrogen Economy (IPHE) organized with 15 countries and the European Commission on November 20,2003 to form a partnership to organize and implement effective,efficient,and focused international research,development,demonstration and commercial utilization activities for hydrogen and fuel cell technologies.It also provides a forum for advancing policies,and common codes and standards that can accelerate the cost-effective transition to a global hydrogen economy to enhance energy security and environmental protection.The ultimate goal for IPHE is to enable consumers in Partnership countries to have the practical option of purchasing competitively-priced hydrogen-powered vehicles that can be refueled near their homes and places of work.By 2020,the IPHE aims to achieve the production of hydrogen at a cost that makes it the fuel of choice for transportation.Currently,IPHE is focusing on identifying and organizing collaborative R&D on hydrogen production,fuel cells,and hydrogen storage,as well as examining the socio-economics of a hydrogen economy,and development of regulations,codes,and standards.
