Turbulence models and numerical procedures used in grid based or Eulerian approach for bridge aerodynamics is surveyed. Different numerical procedures used in the Eulerian approach and their merits and demerits are reported. An efficient large eddy simulation model (LES) using finite element method (FEM) is presented. The Navier-Stockes equations are solved using an implicit procedure. Flow around the Great Belt East bridge approach span is done using both 2D and 3D grid. The computed drag and Strouhal number using FEM-3D are in good agreement with wind tunnel measurements compared to FEM-2D. Velocity vector plots, vorticity and pressure contour plots from both 2D and 3D computations are also compared.
