The conept of dimension is fundamental in the analysis of fractals and multi-fractals. We survey some definitions and properties of dimensons, and discuss some of the situations when chalculation of dimension has been possible, for example for self-similar sets, self-affine sets, graph-directed sets, etc. We also consider the related topic of finding the dimension spectra of multifractal measures.
