Althought the bulk of research involving photocatalytic oxidation of volatile organic compounds involves the remediation of pollutants at high inlet concentrations, there has been an implication that photocatalytic oxidation can be used to reduce exposure to volatile organic compounds and improve indoor air quality. The high conversion rates touted for photocatalytic oxidation of organic compounds to carbon dioxide and water may not be applicable to volatile organic compounds in the parts-per-billion range normally associated with indoor air quality issues.
