STM, XPS and optical spectroscopy of cluster assembled films of lead sulfide

Small PbS clusters prepared by the precipitation in solution from long-chain thiols and lead ions are studied by means of XRD, STM, XPS, and optical spectroscopy and are modelled using semiempirical calculation of some Pb_xS_y clusters. Formation of nanometer-size clusters with the pronounced quantum size effect and bulk-like PbS is observed at different precipitation steps.
