Phosgene is listed as one of the hazardous air pollutants in title I of the clean air act. Phosgene is a highly toxic gas at standard temperature and pressure and has been used in military applications and for a variety of industrial uses. Although various methods have been developed for detection of phosgene in ambifnt air, no method is directly applicable to stationary source emissions. The epa has an on-going research project to develop a field ready protocol for phosgene from stationary source emissions. The results of the derivatization studies, sampling train experiments and other laboratory work will be shown.
