This paper exams the development of neighborhood economy in Beijing especially over the last fifteen years or so. Emphasis is given to the social economic importance of neighborhood economy at neighborhood level in China's current social and economic reforms. It is argued that the fashionable wholesale urban renewal policies in Beijing have imposed ruthless impacts on neighborhood economy and caused serious consequences in neighborhood life. The author believes that those issues should draw more government attentions, also calls for more academic interests in this field.
