Hybrid system for wastewater treatment and simultaneous production of electricity and hydrogen: modeling aproach

A hybrid system approach is presented to enhance the power generation and reduce the costs of construction and operation of MFCs in such a way they might be scaled up to "real-world". In spite of the great need for improvement, the hybrid system proposed in this research is undoubtedly a promising technology that offers a vast range of applications. Bioelectrochemical wastewater treatment via the hybrid system is a novel and promising approach to the wastewater treatment and simultaneous production of renewable electricity and hydrogen. Currently, research is being conducted to achieve these three goals expecting to contribute significantly in developing a technology to practical applications. Preliminary results of the hybrid system performance showed a COD removal of 91.4%, maximum power generation of 290.6 W/m~3 and maximum current generation of 91.8 mA.
