Edge Grinding Forces of Ceramic Tile with Diamond Cup Wheels

摘要

Diamond cup wheel is an important tool for machining of decorative material ceramic tile. Two kinds of ceramic tiles were ground by diamond cup wheels with a special designed test machine. The wear resistance of diamond cup wheels and the materials' removal process of ceramic tiles had been tested, and grinding ratios were measured. The surface morphology of the polished ceramic tiles under different depth of grinding and feed speed were examined by Scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results showed that different ceramic tiles should be edge-ground by different diamond cup wheels in order to improve grinding ratio. In addition, good surface can be obtained by reducing depth of grinding and increasing feed speed. Grinding forces varying with different grinding parameters and the compositions of diamond cup wheel are important factors to effective grinding of ceramic tiles.
