The method involves holding an edge and an elongated grinding surface in sliding contact during a grinding operation. A relative movement between a grinding head (1) and a ceramic article (X) is executed as linear or arc shaped back and forth movement transverse to a longitudinal extent of the grinding surface. The grinding head is moved and the ceramic article is not moved, or the ceramic article is moved and the grinding head is not moved, or both the grinding head and the ceramic article are moved for creating the relative movement. An independent claim is also included for a grinding device for grinding a ceramic, non-rotationally symmetric article.
