Individual Territory in Elderly Facilities

摘要

This paper applies the interview and the behavior observation to investigate individual room and public space in H welfare house for the elderly. This study focuses on the distribution and expansion of individual territory by articles and behavior. It is can be concluded as follows: 1) In individual rooms, the individual territory centers on fixed furniture, such as bed and night table, etc. Meanwhile, they partly overlap each other. 2) The individual article expands in public space to different extents. 3) In the public space, individual activity scope can be divided into three types: centering on own room, centering on both own room and living floor, and expanding to several floors. In the process of design and management, it should pay attention to assure individual territory and promote the occurrence of communicating behavior in individual room, and provide possibility of expansion of individual territory in public space to form different places.
